It's already been a week since one of 2026's most anticipated games launched to record sales numbers and stellar reviews, with that game being Rebel Wolves' debut action role-playing title, The Blood of Dawnwalker.
Set in the late 14th century fictional kingdom of Vale Sangora found in the European Carpathian Mountains, The Blood of Dawnwalker follows humble young farmer Coen turned titular half-man, half-vampire Dawnwalker as he sets out to free his valley from the bloody grips of Brencis and his cadre of ancient vampires and loyal warriors.
While many people are undoubtedly still playing through Dawnwalker and exploring every inch of Vale Sangora, here are 10 other games people should play if they love Dawnwalker due to these games' history with Rebel Wolves developers and their similarities to Dawnwalker's story, characters, and gameplay.
Slight spoilers ahead for The Blood of Dawnwalker.
10 Ryse: Son of Rome
Witnessing the Might of the Roman Empire
Ryse: Son of Rome Action Released November 22, 2013 Developer(s) Crytek Publisher(s) Crytek, Microsoft Game Studios Platform(s) Xbox One, PC Genre(s) ActionIn the lead up to Blood of Dawnwalker's launch, Rebel Wolves detailed that the game's main villain, Brencis, was a vampire from the days of the Roman Empire and players actually get to see how Brencis went from Roman general to bloodthirsty vampire. If players want to delve more into Roman history, they should check out Ryse: Son of Rome.
Originally an Xbox One exclusive launch title, Ryse: Son of Rome is a third-person action-adventure game set during the reign of Emperor Nero in the first century, with the game following the life and military career of Roman centurion Marius Titus as he defends the empire from barbarian invaders.
Despite the game being over 10 years old, Ryse's gameplay and visuals still hold up incredibly well today, and it'd be a great way to witness the world Brencis grew up in.
9 Cyberpunk 2077
Rebel Wolves Developers' Previous Game
Cyberpunk 2077 RPG Action FX Wiki Wiki GGMods Mods Released December 10, 2020 Developer(s) CD Projekt Red Publisher(s) CD Projekt Red Franchise Cyberpunk Platform(s) PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, PC Genre(s) RPG, ActionMany of Rebel Wolves' founders and developers previously worked for CD Projekt, the Polish game studio famous for creating games based on The Witcher book series, but the last game they worked on for CD Projekt was the ambitious first-person action RPG Cyberpunk 2077.
Loosely based on the Cyberpunk tabletop RPG, Cyberpunk 2077 drops players into the futuristic and crime-filled metropolis of Night City as they embody the cyborg mercenary V and inevitably get caught up in a movement to take down the corrupt Arasaka Corporation.
While Cyberpunk 2077 famously launched as a broken mess in 2020, most of its issues have since been resolved and, with the addition of the incredible Phantom Liberty DLC, 2077 has truly become one of the best first-person action RPGs, with its city life possibly being used as a reference for Coen's future present day adventures.
8 Assassin's Creed Valhalla
Exploring Western Europe From a Viking's Perspective
Assassin's Creed Valhalla RPG Action FX Wiki Wiki Released November 10, 2020 Developer(s) Ubisoft Publisher(s) Ubisoft Franchise Assassin's Creed Platform(s) Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S Genre(s) RPG, ActionOne of the best aspects of Dawnwalker is simply exploring the Eastern European land of Vale Sangora and learning more about its unique culture, both from before Brencis and his vampires took control and after. Those curious to explore and learn more about Western Europe in a similar manner, should check out Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
The 12th mainline entry in the long-running Assassin's Creed series, Assassin's Creed Valhalla has players relive the memories of late 9th century Viking, Eivor Varinsdottir, as they set out to raid and establish settlements throughout Norway, Anglo-Saxon England, Ireland, and France while confronting mysterious visions of Norse gods.
Valhalla is certainly less stealth focused than most AC titles, but it still recreates medieval Europe in an awe-inspiring and wondrous way that only the AC franchise can, and it may even cause players to research more about Western European history and culture, just as Dawnwalker has for Eastern Europe.
7 Devil May Cry
An Action-Packed Gothic Adventure
Devil May Cry Hack and Slash Released October 16, 2001 Developer(s) Capcom Production Studio 4 Publisher(s) Capcom Franchise Devil May Cry Platform(s) PS2, PC, PS3, PS4, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One Genre(s) Hack and SlashIn many ways, Dawnwalker can be considered to be a gothic adventure game as much as an action RPG, full of dynamic sequences and enemies that are as visually striking as they are dangerous, and if people wanted to play a game with similar qualities, albeit leaning more into action, Devil May Cry would be a perfect fit.
Originally conceived as a version of Resident Evil 4 before becoming its own IP, Devil May Cry is a gothic hack-and-slash action-adventure game following the demon hunter Dante as he sets out to the mysterious Mallet Island to prevent the Underworld Emperor Mundus from invading the human world.
If people enjoy fighting vampires, uriashi, kobolds, and other monstrous creatures in Dawnwalker, they're bound to love the gameplay and world of Devil May Cry, with even Coen potentially becoming a modern-day monster hunter himself like Dante in future Dawnwalker games.
6 Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2
A Long-Awaited Vampiric Sequel
Developer
The Chinese Room
Platforms
PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S
Release Date
2025
When it comes to video games focused on vampires before Dawnwalker's release, many would consider Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines to be one of, if not, the best vampire video games of all time. While it is great, I would argue that fans of Dawnwalker would enjoy Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 more.
Set primarily in present day, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 has players embody the 400-year-old vampire known as Phyre as they awaken from a century-long slumber in Seattle to stealthily feast on unsuspecting humans and confront a second inquisition by the Vatican against vampires and other supernatural creatures.
While Bloodlines 2 is played in first-person and doesn't feature as many RPG elements as its predecessor, it still presents a very intriguing modern world where vampires, humans, werewolves, and other creatures live in relative harmony, a world that may very well become Dawnwalker's own future.
5 Vampyr
Becoming a Vampire in Early 20th Century London
Vampyr Action RPG FX Wiki Wiki Released June 5, 2018 Developer(s) Dontnod Entertainment Publisher(s) Focus Home Interactive Platform(s) Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 Genre(s) Action RPGThe past decade has arguably been a renaissance for vampire-centric games as more games focused around vampires have been released recently than ever before to varied results, with one of the better vampire games from the past 10 years being the third-person action RPG Vampyr.
Developed by the same creators as Life Is Strange, Vampyr drops players into the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 London following the complicated life of doctor-turned-vampire Jonathan Reid, as he struggles to control his bloodlust while investigating his vampiric origins and the increasing presence of vampires in London.
Much like Coen, players in Vampyr can try to hold Reid's blood thirst back and attack as few people as possible, or they can bite any human that gets in Reid's way, with both options resulting in drastically different endings and character relationships.
4 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Delving Into Dawnguard's Vampirism
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim RPG Action Adventure FX Wiki Wiki GGMods Mods Released November 11, 2011 Developer(s) Bethesda Game Studios Publisher(s) Bethesda Softworks Franchise The Elder Scrolls Platform(s) PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S Genre(s) RPG, Action, AdventureThroughout my first playthrough of Dawnwalker, the world and creatures of Vale Sangora kept on reminding me of the Nordic-inspired province of Skyrim in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, with that RPG featuring its own gothic, vampire-focused DLC called Dawnguard.
The first major expansion to Skyrim, Dawnguard has the Dragonborn discover the province's secret order of vampires, Clan Volkihar, with players being able to join the clan and become a monstrous vampire lord or side with the titular order of vampire hunters, Dawnguard, to rid the land of vampires and save Tamriel's sun from being blotted out.
Skyrim may be nearly 15 years old, but its gameplay, story, and characters still hold up incredibly well today, with the Dawnguard expansion being one of the best depictions of medieval vampires in all of gaming.
3 Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Coen and Gabriel Belmont's Similar Origin
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Action Adventure Released October 5, 2010 Developer(s) MercurySteam, Kojima Productions Publisher(s) Konami Franchise Castlevania Platform(s) PS3, Xbox 360, PC Genre(s) Action, AdventureOne of the best parts of Dawnwalker is being able to direct and witness Coen's progression as a character, with him either becoming a selfless hero despite his vampiric affliction or succumbing to his anger and bloodlust to become just as monstrous as Brencis and his vampire allies. A similar storyline is featured in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.
Taking place in a separate timeline from the rest of the Castlevania series, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow has players embody the knight Gabriel Belmont in the 11th century. He sets out to slay the titular Lords of Shadow, Satan, and the monstrous Forgotten One in an attempt to save his family and revive his deceased wife.
While Belmont does manage to defeat most of his foes, the game ultimately ends with Belmont becoming a vampire similar to Coen, but Belmont doesn't become just another generic vampire. Rather, he becomes the antagonist of the Castlevania franchise, Dracula himself.
2 V Rising
Embodying a True Vampire Lord
V Rising MMORPG Survival Released May 8, 2024 Developer(s) Stunlock Studios Publisher(s) Stunlock Studios Platform(s) PC, PlayStation 5 Genre(s) MMORPG, SurvivalIf Dawnwalker players enjoyed letting Coen succumb to his vampiric bloodlust but wanted to play a game that truly allows them to lay waste to entire lands and settlements as a vampire lord, there's no better title to play next than the top-down isometric RPG survival game V Rising.
Unlike other aforementioned vampire-centric RPGs, V Rising has gamers play as a villainous, ancient vampire lord right from the get-go. Their objective is to reclaim dominion over the land of Vardoran after an 800-year-long slumber, using craftable weapons, vampiric abilities, spells, and a living castle.
Players can customize their vampire lord in V Rising in any way they desire, so Dawnwalker fans could theoretically craft V Rising builds based on Coen, Brencis, or any other vampire from Dawnwalker to simulate disastrous vampire scenarios with Vardoran in place of Vale Sangora.
1 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Blood of Dawnwalker's Greatest Influence
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt RPG Action Adventure FX Wiki Wiki GGMods Mods Released May 19, 2015 Developer(s) CD Projekt Red Publisher(s) CD Projekt Red Franchise The Witcher Platform(s) Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S Genre(s) RPG, Action, AdventureLikely not surprising to many RPG gamers, the number one game fans of The Blood of Dawnwalker need to play is the 2015 Game of the Year and the third-person RPG that refuses to stop receiving DLCs, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Previously spearheaded by Dawnwalker's director, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has players embody the legendary monster hunter Geralt of Rivia in his latest adventure as he sets out to find his adoptive daughter Ciri and fight the titular, catastrophe spawning Wild Hunt.
The Witcher 3's roots can be found throughout Dawnwalker, mainly through its combat but also through its Eastern European-inspired world-building, culture, and supernatural creatures based on folklore. Not to mention the way both games feature dynamic NPCs and quests that drastically change based on players' decisions.
