DREDGE Developer Black Salt Games Helps Form New Studio Team Trifold

DREDGE developer Black Salt Games has announced the formation of Team Trifold, a new independent game studio based in Christchurch, New Zealand. The studio is developing its debut title, generational action roguelike Nothing Lost, for PC.

Team Trifold joins Black Salt Games and Canvas City developer Disc 2 Games, with all three studios operating from the same Christchurch location while independently developing their respective projects.

The newly established Saltworks Entertainment supports the companies. The organization pools resources across production, marketing, quality assurance, localization, audio, business operations, and publishing while leaving creative development to the individual studios.

The announcement also comes alongside the release of a free Steam demo for Disc 2 Games’ Canvas City. The turn-based tactics RPG combines tactical battles with roller skating and street art. The demo includes the tutorial and the first four levels, plus six playable characters across three classes.

Nadia Thorne, CEO of Black Salt Games, said the following:

We really enjoy being a small development team. We find it works well to keep development teams small and creatively focused, while sharing the resources and experience that it doesn’t make sense for the teams to necessarily have on hand across the full development of a game.

Wilson Teo of Team Trifold said the following:

Unlike other action-roguelikes, Nothing Lost remembers every attempt the player has made. With each spirit’s power you infuse, you’ll begin to compound them, making each run more powerful over time.
