A new game from the developers of Disney Illusion Island was announced during gamescom's Opening Night Live. Murals is an isometric action game set in a weird world of fairy tales that are far different than the ones we've come to know.

You'll play as The Hero, an amnesiac who awakens at Sleeping Beauty's castle. Immediately, you're thrown into danger and have to take on enemies right away, after a warning from your loan friend Loaf, a sentient sketch.
You may find the names of certain characters familiar like Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, The Little Mermaid, or many more. However, they'll be different from the versions we all may be familiar with. The darker Brothers Grimm origins of many of these stories are where they'll start but the game will give it their own flair. For example, Rumpelstiltskin is a giant wooden puppet obsessed with theater.
Progression is more horizontal in Murals, where instead of getting a stronger arsenal you get more tools or alternate weapons that play much differently. At any given time you'll have two weapons to use, one that is melee and one that is ranged. There will be a wide variety for a bunch of playstyles.
From the isometric view, it's hard not to compare the combat looking like something similar to something like Hades. There's more to learn about it in the future, however
While this is not a roguelike, there are some elements of that in the progression. Like the powerups you may get between runs, you'll collect Eeries that you can change in and out as you will to change up playstyle, buff certain weapons, or more.
Fans of British comedy may have recognized a voice in the trailer as well, with the legendary Bob Mortimer lending his talents to the game as Magic Dave. Magic Dave is part of the fuel of that roguelike feel as he'll appear each time you exit a mural area to offer up a random selection of Eeries as a reward.
With the weird world of Murals full of odd fairy tales, exploration is a big part of the game as well and there will be plenty of environmental puzzles to interact with as well.
Murals is set to release in 2027 on PC.
